BACKGROUND.
'Making Inroads'- The Arts Development plan for Kildare County Council from 2006-2011 recognises the transitional and changing landscape in the county in recent times. Population increases and new communities have spread across the county but at the same time, many parts of the county remain rural, hidden and sometimes overlooked. Kildare County Council in response to our committment to the rural and architectural aspects of County Kildare, as mentioned in 'Making Inroads' and recently published public art policy have initiated a Public Art and Critical Debate project entitled 'Hidden Wonders'. This project will find, acknowledge and raise the profile of the hidden wonders that are particular or unique to Kildare.
PROJECT AIMS.
- To explore and broaden our definition of the arts in the area of the environment, built environment and architecture as artforms.
- The integration of public art into county facilities, buildings and public spaces.
- To maximise opportunities in the county to undertake Public Art projects to further develop an innovative and collaborative approach to
commissioning Public art in the county through partnership projects.
